New AirKast Mobile Platform Lets Radio Stations Monetize Content on Mobile Devices

March 17, 2009

Radio Stations Can Create & Distribute Enhanced Mobile Content; Gives Advertisers New Powerful Way to Interact with Consumers

CUPERTINO, CA (March 17, 2009)AirKast, a leading provider of mobile solutions, announced today the immediate availability of TuneKast, the first fully integrated mobile media solution for radio stations. Powered by the AirKast mobile media platform, the TuneKast system lets radio stations distribute live radio broadcasts to millions of mobile devices. In addition, radio stations can create and distribute interactive features to their broadcasts in order to enhance the listening experience and allow the audience to directly engage with their programming and content. Using their mobile devices, listening audiences can readily discover and explore the station’s programming and build closer ties with the station’s brand.

TuneKast is available to radio stations as an integrated solution extending to mobile devices its live broadcast feed and programming, all without software or hardware installation. After a simple set-up, radio stations can provide listeners with more information about broadcasted content, including songs, newscasts or talk shows. The radio stations’ advertisers are able to reach listeners in multiple media formats, including audio, graphic display and even video ads. Through TuneKast, radio stations can now leverage opportunities to expand into new revenue distribution channels, offering advertisers features and accountability beyond in-stream audio ads to include mobile impressions, on-demand audio and video experiences.

Rather than building simple mobile radio players, we invested the time and effort to consult with top radio executives to understand their business and strategies for monetizing content on mobile devices,” said Larry Leung, AirKast’s chief executive officer. “Working closely with leading digital radio services providers, TuneKast now enables radio groups the ability to generate additional and new revenues by provisioning, managing and monitoring their advertisers messages in the form of audio injection, mobile display ads and pre-roll gateways videos in conjunction with their live mobile broadcast.”

Through a partnership with Ando Media, the leading ad insertion and in-stream metrics reporting firm, radio stations are able to schedule and traffic ads for in-stream audio, mobile impressions, and video ads through a central management system. “We see tremendous new revenue opportunities in mobile for radio stations with the TuneKast system. Radio stations can now quickly and efficiently schedule, measure and monitor both their in-stream audio and mobile advertising through a single management console. This simplifies and accelerates the ability for radio stations to grow new ad revenues in mobile,”said Paul Krasinski, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Ando Media, LLC.

“We have thoroughly investigated many of the mobile radio solutions in the marketplace. Most are simple radio players that do little to monetize radio stations content or build their brand with listeners. We see the TuneKast system offering great branding capabilities for our radio group clients while creating significant opportunities to help them monetize live broadcast and podcasts content through mobile devices.” said Mike Agovino, Chief Operating Officer for Triton Media Group, a leading provider of digital services enhancing the radio and media industries.

For the radio station’s mobile listeners, TuneKast offers detailed information about every song, talk show or podcast played. Listeners can tag and save favorite songs and podcasts to enjoy at a more convenient time, or share them with friends within their social network via their mobile phone. TuneKast enables mobile listeners to discover new content, view feedback from other mobile listeners and continually receive new content directly from their favorite radio stations. TuneKast currently supports the Apple iPhone and has announced support for Blackberry, Google Android and Windows Mobile platforms. Additional mobile devices supported will be announced in the future.
